Choosing the Right Recliner Lift Chair
A recliner lift chair is useful for anyone who needs a little “boost” getting up out of a seated position. Of course, many people with disabilities like arthritis or other mobility problems find these types of chairs useful, but they can also be useful for pregnant women or just about anyone who has difficulty getting up out of a reclining chair. Even very short people, for example, can find these types of chairs beneficial.
If you’re in the market for one of these chairs, it might the difficult for you decide which type you need. What is the best lift chair? There are many types and styles available, and each has its own particular reclining capacity. For example, you might need a recliner that has two or three reclining positions, or an infinite number of positions. This can be very confusing for you if you don’t fully know what the differences are in each of these recliners’ capabilities.
Let’s take a look at each of the different types. A recliner that has two positions will recline to an approximately 45-degree angle. These are probably not the best chairs to sleep in, but are fine for sitting. In addition, you can usually choose a different reclining angle with these as well, anywhere up to the 45-degree angle. These chairs will lift you up and will let you go from a sitting to a standing position without a lot of effort from you. These two position chairs are motorized and you control the recline and lift functions by using hand controls, which are provided.
Three-position chairs let you recline so that you are almost lying flat. In addition, you can choose just about every angle in between, so that you have the most comfort. With these, the footrest itself also moves in conjunction with the reclining movement, so it will raise and lower as you recline or lift yourself up. As with the two-position chair, the three-position chair lifts you up so that you can go from sitting to standing easily. Again, these are motorized, and you operate them with hand controls.
Chairs that have “infinite” positions have two motors instead of just one. In addition, the footrest operates independently, unlike the two-or three-position chairs. With the infinite-position chairs, you can raise and lower the footrest separate from the actions you do with the chair itself. Therefore, if you want your back to be completely at a 90-degree angle, you can still sit in this position and have your feet raised as well. You can also raise your feet above your heart, which can be helpful if you have problems with edema or arthritis. You can also sleep quite comfortably in these chairs, since you can position the back and feet separately and choose just the right fit for you.
Of course, you might want a choice of colors and material coverings for your chairs, but the most important things to consider are your comfort and needs when you choose a recliner lift chair. Focus on the reclining capacity first and keep these benefits in mind as you buy.
In fact whether you are getting a stairway chair lift or a van wheelchair lift, you will be keeping in mind many of these same principals. You want comfort and reliability and of course the freedom that these lifts can provide.
